Some students wish to use their internet connection to engage in Peer To Peer file sharing and some to download copyrighted material illegally. Sharing/downloading copyrighted material is against the law. Students should be aware that the Record industry has sued students at some campuses and students found guilty have had to pay out thousands of dollars in fines. So, don't put yourself at risk, don't download copyrighted material.
ResNet does not block p2p traffic, but we do have processes to deal with downloading. If ResNet is contacted by a copyright enforcement agency (such as the RIAA or MPAA) about a student violating copyright law our response will be to remove that student's internet access until ResNet can verify that the Copyrighted material has been removed from their hard disk or is no longer visible to such agencies. Be aware that repeat offenders will be subjected to college judiciary action. For information about turning off sharing please check the turn off sharing. For more detailed information about Bridgewater State College's policy regarding copyright and the DMCA, see here.
